Migrant Education is a federal program within Title I (Part C) that was initiated in 1965 and reauthorized in 2001 by the No Child Left Behind legislation. The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure migrant students reach high academic standards, graduate with a high school diploma/high school equivalency, and are prepared for responsible citizenship, college and career. Supplemental Services that the program delivers are educational, nutrition, health, and parent involvement.

Duarte Unified belongs to the San Gabriel Valley Consortium (SGVC) of districts that include Baldwin Park, Hacienda-La Puente, Pomona, and Rowland that serves approximately 200 students identified as being eligible for the Migrant Education program. The SGVC offers a range of services that include support in language arts and mathematics through after-school classes Saturday Classes and Summer School. The program also provides field trips and conferences for students in grades 6-12. The Migrant Education program also delivers school readiness opportunities, health and nutrition services, tutoring assistance, college access programs, and parent workshops.

To qualify for Migrant Education the child's caretaker must have been engaged in agricultural work within the past three years, the child has moved with the worker and the employment is seasonal or temporary. Examples of qualifying jobs include packing products, fishing, dairy/farm/ranch/livestock jobs, and nursery jobs.
